Rory Rooney obtained a degree in Fine Art at Kingston University, London.
Rory’s career in the film world started in Promos, working through the ranks and gaining valuable experience on set as a Runner, Sound Assistant and Play-Back Operator for artists such as Paul Weller, Afirika Bambaata and U2.
Rory moved to Tony Kaye Films as a runner then worked up the ranks to production assistant then to Producer. Working with acclaimed directors such Damian Hirst, and Ellen Von Enworh. This lnvolved working on many campaigns and ultimately assisiting Tony Kaye on various projects including ‘American History X’ with Edward Norton.
Working alongside Tony spurred Rory onto new heights and gave him the confidence and conviction to go it alone. He shot his first commercial for The Face magazine. This received critical acclaim and won the Saatchi’s New Director’s Showcase in Cannes.
Rory has since worked on many successful UK ad campaigns for Irn-Bru, Marmite, Batchelors, Kelloggs, Tennents Lager and Agent Provocateur, which have picked up numerous awards at British Television awards, The Rose’s, APA50 and Cannes as well as making many D&AD annuals. Rory has also worked with big name talent Such as Johnny Knoxville and Sharon Osbourne.
Along with Rory’s Prolific commercials he has also written and directed short films, his latest ‘The Magic’ has screened at festivals around the world, winning the audience award at European Independent Film Awards and was selected for Cannes 08.
